GSG’s progress in high-emission industries project with support of HSBC China

2023年06月06日

GSG,supported by HSBC China and SEE Foundation, and in partnership with the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), are thrilling to introduce project progress of Supporting Low Carbon Transition of Emissions-intensive Industries in China. Sponsored by HSBC Climate Solutions Partnership Program, the project has developed climate solutions in base of challenges high-emission companies are facing in net-zero transition. GSG will disclose Report of 2022 Climate-Related Disclosure of Chinese High-Emission Companies in August then and compile Guidelines of Climate-Related Disclosure for Emissions-intensive Industries (Comment Edition).

High-emission industries need a lot of financial support to carry out energy transformation and implement decarbonization technology. Transparent and effective climate information disclosure is one of the key elements to assist banks, insurance, asset management and other financial institutions to assess climate-related risks of enterprises and industries, and to make investment decisions.

GSG will provide tools enabling information disclosure which meet the needs of sustainable financing, thereby accelerating the decarbonization and development of the traditional high-emission industries. The work of GSG focused on the gap between the status quo of corporate climate information disclosure and the information needs of financial institutions as a wedge. In the 1st stage of the project, GSG conducted an in-depth study of the current climate information disclosure of domestic high-emission industries.

GSG has completed the annual report of "Climate Information Disclosure Status of Domestic High-emission Industries", which systematically evaluated and analyzed the overall climate disclosure status of listed companies in China's high-emission industries. At the same time, GSG has preliminarily compiled the "Guidelines for Climate Information Disclosure of High-emission Industries (Solicitation Version)" and the supporting "Climate Risk and Opportunity Assessment Manual", "Carbon Reduction Target Setting Guidance Manual" and other practical process manuals.

These reports and manuals are used to enable companies in high-emission industries to proactively disclose their climate risk management work and results instead of passively responding to the negative impacts of climate.

The deliverables coming soon in September aims to provide available information support for financial institutions to develop and transform finance, promote the flow of more transformation funds to high-emission companies, and hopefully could contribute to decarbonization of high-emission industries and the coordination of the national "dual carbon" goals.
