[Policy Update] China Launches Pilot Program for Comprehensive Hydrogen Energy Application

📰 News Highlight

On March 16, 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), along with other key regulators, jointly issued the "Notice on Carrying Out Pilot Work for the Comprehensive Application of Hydrogen Energy." The policy introduces a "city cluster" pilot model to drive the large-scale application of hydrogen across transportation and industry.

⚙️ Core Components

1.       "Application-Led" Pilot Model: The program utilizes a "Open Competition" mechanism to select city clusters as the primary pilot entities. This approach emphasizes regional synergy and supply chain linkage, moving away from isolated projects toward integrated industrial hubs.

2.       "Reward instead of Subsidy" Mechanism: The policy shifts from traditional subsidies to a performance-based incentive system. Financial rewards are granted based on actual hydrogen consumption and terminal application effectiveness.

💡 Key Takeaways

1.       From R&D to Commercial Scale: This policy marks a transition for China’s hydrogen sector from technology demonstration to commercialized, large-scale deployment.

2.       From R&D to Commercial Scale: This policy marks a transition for China’s hydrogen sector from technology demonstration to commercialized, large-scale deployment.

3.       Incentivizing Efficiency, Not Just Capacity: The Reward instead of Subsidy model forces pilot regions to focus on actual utilization and operational efficiency rather than just building idle infrastructure.

[Market Update] China Joins "Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy" to Accelerate Global Green and Low-Carbon Transition

📰 News Highlight

On March 10, 2026, during the second Nuclear Energy Summit held in Paris, France, China officially announced its accession to the "Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy." This declaration, originally launched by 22 countries at COP28, aims to triple global nuclear energy capacity by 2050 to achieve net-zero emissions and meet the Paris Agreement's temperature goals.

💡 Key Takeaways

1.       Enhancing Global Supply Chain Resilience: China’s involvement suggests deeper international cooperation in nuclear technology exports, equipment manufacturing, and the stabilization of the global nuclear fuel cycle.

2.       Leadership in Global Nuclear Governance: By joining this international framework, China is taking a proactive role in shaping global standards for nuclear safety, project financin.

3.       China as the "Engine" for Tripling Capacity: As the world leader in new nuclear construction, China’s industrial scale, supply chain efficiency, and rapid deployment capabilities provide the "China Solution" needed to bridge the global gap between net-zero ambitions.
